Joseph DeVito New Jersey Accident: Man Died in Motorcycle Crash

New Jersey — A devastating loss has left the Union County law enforcement community in mourning following the death of Joseph DeVito, 28, who was killed Friday morning in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 78.

Authorities said DeVito, a resident of Kenilworth, suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle collided with a semi-trailer traveling in the right lane.

According to the New Jersey State Police, DeVito was traveling westbound on I-78 near milepost 43.4 when the front of his motorcycle struck the front of a car carrier semi-trailer driven by a 32-year-old man from Groveport, Ohio. The impact ejected him from the motorcycle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.

Peter Corvelli described the loss as devastating, remembering DeVito as a valued member of the department, as well as a respected colleague and friend. Law enforcement agencies across the region have also shared condolences, highlighting the strong bonds within the law enforcement community and the collective grief felt in the wake of his passing.

What began as a routine commute ended in tragedy, leaving family, friends, and fellow officers mourning a life cut short far too soon.
